Woopppie!!!!…. Wubi
All you windows users who wanted to try out linux … but was afraid for your system?? Well here comes Wubi, If you can click a icon you can install one of the three flavours of ubuntu:xubuntu, ubuntu or kubuntu. They are all basically the same except for the fact that they each run a different desktop environment… XFCE, Gnome and KDE respectively.Grab a ISO of your choice or let wubi download it for you… either way give *buntu a try.
Here is a excerpt from th wubi wiki page:
How does Wubi work?
Wubi
adds an entry to the Windows boot menu which allows you to run Linux.
Ubuntu is installed within a file in the Windows file system
(c:\ubuntu\disks\root.disk), this file is seen by Linux as a real hard
disk.

Wubi is great, but must be used for testing purposes only: as your Ubuntu is installed on the Windows partition, it is less secure (not virus-proof) and less effective (slower than a real install and subject to fragmentation).
I installed Ubuntu using Wubi on my roommate’s laptop yesterday and gave her a deadline of one month to decide if she wants to switch totally to Ubuntu. If she tells me she wants to, i’ll just format the whole disk, else i’ll uninstall the Wubi installation of Ubuntu. But i won’t let her use it this way more than one month.

shameful to say but i have barely used linux since hardy’s release.. I’ve installed it but haven’t gone much beyond that. I’m sure i have a tonne of updates to do. and i haven’t event researched getting my wireless card to work in ubuntu. though it doesn’t work that well in windows so i wont be surprised if the hardware never gets detected..

My wireless worked out of the box with my Latitude D820.
