Ahhh VMware… I’ve missed u

sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-`uname -r`

then ran the install script

answered the default questions then BAM!!!!… have my vmware server… Can anyone guess where Windows shall be going?!??!?!?!

  1. A taken from the VMWare FAQ:

VMware Workstation software consists of a virtual-machine suite for Intel x86-compatible computers. This software suite allows users to set up multiple x86 virtual computers and to use one or more of these virtual machines simultaneously. Each virtual machine instance can execute its own guest operating system, such as (but not limited to) Windows, Linux, and BSD variants. In simple terms, VMware Workstation allows one physical machine to run numerous operating systems simultaneously. Other VMware products help manage or migrate VMware virtual machines across multiple host machines.

So basically i can run Windows XP, 9X, NT, FreeBSD, SCO, UNIX whatevver from one machine. Each one of those vm’s (virtual machines) will be in ther own ‘sandbox’ so they won’t or better yet can’t do anything to the (host)my machine. A perfect example of using a vm is… let’s say you like download music and search for warez and all the other stuff u SHOULD NOT do and ur afraif of viruses that u may catch (it doesn’t matter WHAT av u have u can still catch something) what u do is load up a VM use that for ur ‘fun browsing’ and if u pick up a baddie it can’t do anythign to ur REAL machine since that whole OS is in a little cage where it can’t harm u.

  2. makes sense its kinda like a chroot 🙂 lpi for the win >:p

  3. welll yea.. a jail for WHATEVER OS, not just windows, u decide to install.
